Driving License Category A1
Driving License Category A1 is a license to drive two-wheeled motorized vehicles. In particular, it permits you to drive mopeds or small motorcycles with engines that have no more than 11 kW.
The procedure to obtain the license is slightly different from other categories. Let's take a look at the steps.
Prerequisites
A driving license category is only available to those who are 16 years old. This licence allows the driver to drive a light motorcycle, while A2 and A are reserved for larger motor vehicles. You also need to complete the first-aid course as well as theoretical training that follows the full curriculum. This is offered through a variety of driving schools. The training in the practical part is made up of a number of driving lessons. The classes are between 3 and 4 hours. The instructors will guide you through the fundamentals of your motorcycle and the fundamental rules of road. The number of hours of training will depend on your performance and abilities, but the program stipulates at least five hours of instruction on federal roads and four hours of riding on country roads. You will also need to take part in specific riding lessons designed to enhance the skills you are able to use in challenging situations.
Anyone who wants to drive vehicles in the category C must possess an driving licence of category B or better. A person who has an A1 category licence is able to continue their training for category A1 by using a simplified curriculum. However they must pass at least ten theory classes and ten driving classes in the driving school. This is not an option for those who have the category B licence.
Driving License Category A1 is a great option for teens who wish to drive of their own vehicle or for adults who have been driving for a long time, but are seeking a new way to commute. It is important to note that if you are an adult, you will need the signed consent of your guardian in order to be eligible for a Driving License Category A1. In Belgium, a full category-A license is required to drive a three-wheeled moped or motorcycle. You can ride a full category A1 motorbike only if you possess an A1 full category or full A2 licence. In certain countries, you can gain more access to higher category licences by first driving smaller-powered motorcycles. Theory test
The Driving License Category A1 test is a two-part test, which includes both a theoretical and practical portion. It is designed to give you an understanding of the highway code and driving skills. Both tests must be passed before you can get your license. You can take your exams either prior to or after you have completed the basic training requirement (CBT).
The test for theory in the exam includes 50 multiple-choice questions you have to answer correctly. If you pass the practical portion of the test, you will receive your driver's license within two weeks. Practical test
The test part of the Driving License Category A1 exam is comprised of two parts. The first part involves the examiner checking your motorcycle and preparing you to drive. You can also drive a three-wheel motor vehicle (trike) with this licence when it has a capacity for the engine of up to 125 cubic centimeters and a weight/power ratio of not more than 15 kW per kilogram.
Besides the driving test, you must pass an exam for medical reasons before you can get your license. You must also provide evidence of a first aid course and pass the vision test.
